چکیده

To avoid collisions, IEEE 802.11 medium access control (MAC) uses predetermined inter-frame spaces and the random back-off process. However, the retransmission strategy of IEEE 802.11 MAC results in considerable time wastage. The hidden node problem is well known in wireless networks; it aggravates the consequences of time wastage for retransmission. Many collision prevention and recovery approaches have been proposed to solve the hidden node problem, but all of them have complex control overhead. In this paper, we propose a fast retransmission scheme as a recovery approach. The proposed scheme identifies collisions caused by hidden nodes and then allows retransmission without collision. Analysis and simulations show that the proposed scheme has greater throughput than request-to-send and clear-to-send (RTS/CTS) and a shorter average waiting time. Category: Ubiquitous computing

A Hidden Node Aware Network Allocation Vector Management System for Multi-hop Wireless Ad hoc Networks

Many performance evaluations for IEEE 802.11distributed coordination function (DCF) have been previouslyreported in the literature. Some of them have clearly indicatedthat 802.11 MAC protocol has poor performance in multi-hopwireless ad hoc networks due to exposed and hidden nodeproblems. Although RTS/CTS transmission scheme mitigatesthese phenomena, it has not been successful in thoroughlyomit...

On the Hidden Terminal Jamming Problem in IEEE 802.11 Mobile Ad Hoc Networks

This paper addresses recent experimental measurements from an IEEE 802.11 ad hoc network testbed, which indicate a strong signal strength dependence in the ability of a hidden terminal to gain access to the radio channel. We present analytical results investigating the ‘hidden terminal jamming’ ability of the IEEE 802.11 DSSS physical layer. Results indicate that in a hidden terminal topology, ...

Study of IEEE 802.11 Modified MAC

In some recent researches Distributed Coordinate Function becomes an important mechanism in order to access the medium (Channel). The IEEE 802.11 protocol is based on Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Avoidance (CSMA/CA) with a binary exponential backoff (BEB) algorithm to access the channel as the architecture of 802.11 handles MAC(Medium Access Control) layer and specification of P...

SRN Model for IEEE 802.11 DCF MAC Protocol in Multi-hop Ad Hoc Networks with Hidden Nodes

Since its development for WLAN, IEEE 802.11 standard has been widely used for various wireless networks due to the low cost and effectiveness in reducing collisions with simple and decentralized mechanisms. In this paper we present a novel analytical SRN model for performance evaluation of IEEE 802.11 DC F MAC protocol in multi-hop ad hoc networks in the presence of hidden nodes, taking into ac...

AFR partial MAC proposal for IEEE 802

In this document we propose a scheme of packet Aggregation with Fragment-Retransmission (AFR) for the IEEE 802.11n. Simulation results show that the AFR scheme allows to meet the requirements of the IEEE 802.11n PAR [1], i.e. 100Mbps data throughput at MAC layer. Comparisons with 802.11 [2] and 802.11e [3] MAC layer protocols show that the AFR scheme outperforms both 802.11 DCF and 802.11e burs...
